Personal Stories

Overcoming stigma and fear is crucial for accessing comprehensive medical care. When pilots and controllers fear the potential impact of a diagnosis on their career, they may hesitate to communicate openly with healthcare providers. This lack of transparency makes it challenging for physicians to accurately diagnose and treat them. Our mission is to foster a culture of openness and education within the aeromedical community, encouraging system-wide changes that minimize fear and stigma. Through research and education, we aim to empower individuals to prioritize their health without fear of judgment or repercussions.

We hope to change the stigma and encourage aviation professionals to speak to their healthcare providers. However, we understand this is difficult and Project Open Skies is a non-profit that provides peer support and can be a helpful resource. Below you can find personal anonymous stories from Project Open Skies.
