Healthcare Avoidance Behavior

The Problem

The current aeromedical system creates risk by incentivizing aviation professionals to not seek help or care because of the fear they'd lose their livelihoods if they did. A 2022 study found over 56% of respondents avoided medical care due to concerns about their pilot certificate.

Research

Research into pilot healthcare avoidance is currently limited, but initial findings reveal concerning trends. Studies suggest that 56% of pilots throughout North America delay or forgo medical care due to worries about their pilot certificate.

Educate

We are committed to providing comprehensive education within the aviation industry, emphasizing the importance of preventative care. Our aim is to equip pilots with the knowledge and resources essential for taking charge of their health and well-being in the skies.

Support

We've forged partnerships with fellow non-profits to bolster our support network. The Aviation Family Fund provides crucial financial assistance to aviation professionals navigating medical uncertainties, while Project Open Skies offers peer-to-peer support throughout the FAA medical process. Additionally, the Pilot Mental Health Campaign serves as a powerful advocate for aeromedical reform.

Promote Change

We believe in implementing systemic changes through a methodical approach grounded in research and refined through ongoing experience. Our goal is to foster continuous improvement, and we invite you to join us in pursuing this preferred outcome. Together, we have the power to enact meaningful change and make a tangible difference.
